Christmas In July Blog Hop!

Welcome to the Christmas in July Blog Hop!

You are going to see great ideas along this blog hop to help you with your Holiday paper crafting!

One of the advantages of being a demonstrator for Stampin' Up! is that we get to order products prior to the time they are released to the public.  It is awesome!

This month we were able to pre-order an "Early Release" bundle that will be in the upcoming Holiday Catalog - AND will be released in August for customers!  One of the samples that Stampin' Up! provided with the new Carols of Christmas stamp set was a card with a photograph on the front and a vellum overlay using the coordinating Card Front Builders Thinlits.

Today had the chance to play around with some ideas for Christmas cards for my daughter and her fiance and used that idea to try to design a card for them.  They will be married October 21 so it will be their first Christmas as a married couple. The photo I used is one from their engagement photo shoot. I'll use a more current card for the actual Christmas card because her hair had not grown in yet after her chemo treatments and she wore a wig. She now has a really cute "pixie" cut!  It looks so great on her!

For this card sample I picked up the color in her dress which matches our Berry Bliss.  I like all the 2017-19 In colors but Berry Bliss is my favorite!

  • I wanted the photo to be the focal point of the card so chose not to use one of the large greetings on the front that are included in the Carols of Christmas stamp set. Instead, I chose a small greeting from the Oh, What Fun stamp set.
  • The card base is Berry Bliss cardstock and I cut a layer the same size as the card front out of Vellum Cardstock to use to cut the frame with the new Card Front Builders Thinlits.
  • It took a couple of tries to cut the vellum easily with the card front frame thinlit. My "sandwich" for the big shot was the magnetic base plate, the Precision Base Plate, Vellum Cardstock, Thinlit & Cutting Pad. I ran it through the Big Shot and back again and all the pieces just fell right out when I picked it up. After you run the frame thinlit and vellum through the big shot, you'll have to put the thinlit on the opposite end of the vellum run it through again to make the complete frame. I found that if I mark the center of each side of the paper with a light pencil mark it made center the frame thinlit easier. You simply erase the mark after you cut out the frame. I used glue dots to adhere the velum piece to the card front. I placed the glue dots under the ornaments and at the corners of the photo.
  • The ornaments were stamped and then cut out using one of the ornaments thinlit in the Card Front Builders Thinlits Dies and popped up with the new Mini Dimensionals. I added a Basic Rhinestone in the center of each of the ornaments to add a little sparkle.  If you don't have the Mini Dimentionals yet, put them on your next order!  I will still use the outer edges on the regular dimensionals for some projects but the small ones make it so fast to adhere small pieces!
  • The greeting on the card front was stamped in Berry Bliss and I sprinkled clear embossing powder over it and used my heat tool to emboss it.  That is also how I added the ornament strings to the card prior to popping on the ornaments.  .

There are sooo many thinlits in that set!  Now that I've played around with the vellum over a photo idea, there are some more ideas on my list that I want to try.
